Design and Appearance
When stored or not in use, the ear cups of the Beats Studio headphones can be collapsed inward, one ear cup on top of the other. When a listener is ready to use them, he can simply rotate the ear cups and its housing outward and then extend or collapse these as needed for sizing. Its rounded shape and appearance are very striking and unique.
Both ear cups expand and collapse along sturdy metal rails that give users another inch of headroom on each side. It seems that these should fit large and small heads alike.
The headband of the Beats Studio headphones is exactly ten inches long. The lowercase "beats by dre" logo appears directly in the middle in small grey and white letters. The underside of the headband has a six-inch long faux leather covered cushion to provide comfort for the top of the wearer's head.
The headband is a single piece of very thin, curved plastic attached to the headphones' frame on both sides with small hex screws and metal branding plates. The hinges that allow the ear cups to fold inward for storage are barely visible.

When we flexed the ear cups inward and outward, we saw obvious signs of stress throughout the frame and headband. We had to hold the headband above the ear cup securely and then we slowly positioned the ear cup. We felt as if we were going to bend these too far or break these if we were not extremely careful. The Beats' user guide does wa buyers to be cautious when adjusting the headband, but that waing does not instill much faith in us as to the product's long-term durability.
The Beats headphones house 40 mm drivers in its ear cups with black faux leather ear pads on the outside for comfort. There is a very thin layer of black foam rubber between your ear and the driver in each ear cup.
Both ear cups swivel inward and outward fifteen degrees, almost too freely, which allows them to contour to the sides of the wearer's head.
The exterior of the right ear cup houses the Beats' noise-cancelling circuitry, power switch, and mute button. The power switch is normally illuminated in red when the Beats are tued on and it will become amber when the batteries begin to run low. The "b" logo plate on the right ear cup can be depressed and held to mute the headphones' sound. We found the brushed metal logo plates to be a very clever way to brand the product and also disguise the mute button beneath.
The left ear cup houses the batteries required for the product's operation with a removable cover on top. The inside of the battery cover is where we found our authentic serial number (which we obscured for the photo).

Here we see some of the most obvious examples of the cheap plastic used throughout as well as overspray and underspray from the crimson red paint job. The two plastic locking tabs that secure the cover in the ear cups' retaining grooves feel thin and flimsy. Not surprisingly, Monster offers replacement headbands and battery covers on the "replacement parts" section of the Beats' website.
Of all of the items and components packaged in the Beats Studio box, the only ones that felt sturdy and well-built were the two included stereo cables and the gold-plated airline adapter used to connect the product to its sound sources.
While we very much liked the product's appearance, shape, and color, but the build quality of these premium priced headphones is no better than that of any budget-priced headphones or gaming headset.

Unless you've been hiding indoors for the last 12 months, you'll probably have noticed a lot of people walking around wearing headphones with a distinctive 'b' logo on them.

Monster's Beats by Dr. Dre headphones are a triumph of marketing. After the launch in 2009, they're now stocked in almost every high street in the UK. Branches of HMV have entire sections devoted to them.

The trademark red audio cables that come with Beats headphones have become almost as iconic as Apple's white iPod cables in just a short space of time. It's a meteoric rise to prominence that simply must be down to them being the best headphones in town. Right?

Well they certainly look good. The packaging they come in screams 'premium' and the build quality of the headphones themselves is second to none. Even before you put them on your head, they look and feel the part.

They fold up nicely for easy transportation, and come with a padded carry case.

You also get two audio cables – one standard 3.5mm cable and another that's compatible with ControlTalk. With ControlTalk you can use the inline remote on the cable to play/pause your music and toggle volume up and down without putting your hand in your pocket. This requires the presence of an Apple iPod, iPhone or iPad though.

The BHA-1 is mostly a headphone amplifier but, as you'll see, it could also serve as a minimalist two-channel preamplifier. On the back, you will discover three stereo inputs - one particular balanced XLR, one single-ended RCA and a single single-ended mini-stereo input. There's also a single pair of balanced XLR outputs that can be used to drive an amplifier. The balanced XLR output's level is controlled by the big volume knob on the front panel, which in essence tus the BHA-1 into a preamp. As opposed to merely passing a fixed-output line-level signal, the BHA-1 has a variable output level, producing it suitable for pre-amplifier duties. The only limiting aspect for pre-amp use is there's only one pair of outputs, so should you often use a subwoofer, as I do, you will either have to use a splitter to obtain a second output, run your signal first for your subwoofer then to your speaker's energy amplifiers, or use a second pair of speaker cables from your amplifiers for your subwoofer. All 3 schemes perform - it merely is determined by your ancillary gear's inputs as to which will function best.

The front panel from the BHA-1 has a three-way toggle switch for input selection, plus a two-way acquire switch that delivers either 14 or 20 dB of gain. Other front panel controls consist of a big volume control knob, a smaller sized balance control knob, a on-off toggle switch, a single-ended quarter-inch stereo headphone output, a balanced XLR stereo output along with a pair of XLR balanced mono L/R outputs. All the front panel outputs are active all the time. The rear output can also be active constantly, even when the headphones are plugged in to the front panel. This really is somewhat unusual, since most DACs with built-in headphone outputs, like the Benchmark DAC-2, April Music Eximus DP-1, along with the Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DAC, mute their rear outputs when a headphone is attached. Whenever you program to listen to headphones alone (which can be how a lot of people listen), you will need to tu off your speakers' (and subwoofer's) amplifiers.

Audiophiles who are new for the headphone factor may possibly wonder why the BHA-1 has two achieve settings. This makes the BHA-1 much more useful, because it might drive each high-sensitivity in-ear monitors and lower-sensitivity high-impedance studio headphones. Generally, if a headphone amp is made for high-sensitivity earphones, it lacks enough drive to push high-impedance headphones to sufficient volume levels. If a headphone is made for larger impedance headphones, it typically has a lot of hiss and too higher a volume level to function effectively with high-sensitivity in-ears. The BHA-1 can handle both extremes with aplomb.
The BHA-1's volume control deserves a special mention. Most volume controls do the majority of their perform inside the initial half of their rotation, and the second half does tiny to increase the volume levels. This is usually known as "an audio taper." The BHA-1 does not use an audio taper. Instead the volume level increase for the initial quarter of its rotation is extremely gradual. Only during the last quarter-tu does the volume level get considerably louder. Even though this various taper may take a little of time for you to get employed to (especially should you be also making use of the BHA-1 as a preamp), it allows for considerably finer level adjustments than an audio taper, particularly when combined using the two-position achieve adjustment switch.

Offered in either black or silver finish, the BHA-1 is housed in a full-width 19-inch chassis that has provisions for rack mounting. Its depth is only seven inches, which could make stacking half-width 12-inch-deep cabinets, including most Stax headphone amplifiers, rather precarious. But there's an even much better explanation for not stacking elements on best of the BHA-1; it actually demands breathing room for heat dissipation. I identified that unless I gave the BHA-1 at the least two inches of space above and below for adequate ventilation, it could go into thermal shutdown soon after operating for more than half an hour. Tuing the BHA-1 off for a handful of minutes solved the shutdown, but suitable ventilation for the BHA-1 is really a need to, unless you enjoy periodic musical interruptions.

The BHA-1 is accessible in two versions. The standard version uses an inteal energy supply, but for an added expense, the BHA-1 is accessible with an exteal energy supply. My review sample was the common version with an inteal energy provide. Offered the overview unit's lack of noise and over 105 dB S/N specification, I identified little explanation to long for the much more costly exteal power supply version.

Provided that many top-quality DAC/preamplifiers include at least a single high-quality headphone output, why would anyone need a committed headphone amplifier such as the Bryston BHA-1? The answer is fairly simple - the BHA-1 is much more robust and flexible than any built-in headphone amplifier I've heard. Even the high-quality headphone amplifiers inside the Benchmark DAC-2, Mytek 192-DSD, and Stello Eximus DP-1 endure by comparison together with the BHA-1, even when asked to drive an "easy" load, like a Sennheiser HD-600. Whenever you plug inside a challenging headphone, like the Beyer-Dynamic DT-990 600-ohm version, the sonic differences between the BHA-1 and built-in headphone amplifiers is even higher. The DT-990 sounded more controlled, with considerably better bass extension and detail when tethered for the BHA-1.

For

  • Comfortable healthy Roomy sound
  • Deep bass

    Against

  • Sound leaks at increased volumes
  • Could do with far more punch and precision

If these Cresyn C510E in-ear headphones appear curious, its mainly because they are.

They possess a half in-ear design and style: the human body nestles relaxed with your ear, though the tip sits just within the ear canal. This can be alleged to be a lot less intrusive than digging in, and in truth we uncovered them particularly cozy, even for very long listening periods.

    Cresyn C510E evaluation: Sound quality
The dual-chamber composition is intended to produce a far more extended bass response. And also to seems to operate: the C510E is deep and rich within the low-end.

These Cresyns also have a semi-open back again layout, which inevitably leaks seem at larger volumes.

Its in no way disastrous, but you couldnt ramp it up without having annoying other individuals. This also signifies that the tunes is susceptible to getting polluted by exterior noise.

The flip side to this really is that partly open-back designs typically allow for for a additional spacious soundstage than shut alteate options.

These Cresyns have a wide, ethereal presentation, as well as the listening expertise is soothing. Somewhere else, there's a fulfilling level of depth and articulation.

    Cresyn C510E review: Verdict
Compared on the best at this value, including the two-time award-winning SoundMAGIC E10, the C510E isnt fairly as punchy or as partaking. We would also much like the timing to generally be tightened up slightly.

Put it with each other and these are typically cozy, open-sounding headphones that dont fairly force the envelope in regards to enjoyment and all round cohesion.
